Project description

The Follo Line Project is currently the largest infrastructure project in Norway. Between the capital Oslo and the city Ski in the south a new 22.5-kilometer high-speed railway is planned. The main construction work started in 2015, with completion in December 2021. Most of the planned route runs underground, at a depth of 21 to 160 metres. With a total length of 20 km, the tunnel is the longest railway tunnel in the country.
The Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO) is one of the largest research institutes in Norway and monitors groundwater within the Follo Line project on behalf of the Norwegian National Rail Administration (Jernbaneverket). More than 160 groundwater monitoring points, some of which are equipped with SEBA sensors, supply groundwater levels, water quality and sensor information several times a day. The collected data is stored and managed fully automatically via the mobile network in the groundwater monitoring system GW-Base and are published and shared via the online application GW-Web on the Internet.
