In Ovalle, Chile, on the 23rd of November, within the framework of workshops and field trips, the fundamentals for a project to develop an information and monitoring system to enhance water use efficiency in the Limarí river basin in central Chile were established.
The project plan includes a complete mass balance study of available ground and surface waters as well as the resources needed for agriculture and population in the area of the Limarí river basin. The latest technologies such as GPRS data loggers for water and climate data and advanced management software, such as GW-GW-Base and Web are intended to be used and specifically enhanced in the context of real-time monitoring and "public availability".
Within the scope of this workshop all key aspects of the project as well as the needs of local stakeholders were harminized with all involved parties, amongst others the representatives of local water authorities, the universitys of La Serena (Chile), Valparadiso (Chile) and Granada (Spain), the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne (ITT) (Germany) and ribeka Software (Germany).
